GE and Data61, have developed a data analytics solution that will give the Royal Australian Navy greater insights into their fleet engine performance and enhance operational efficiency.
By placing sensors on the GE engines and using techniques such as machine learning and advanced algorithms, CSIRO's Data61 will be able to predict future failures and reduce fuel burn. Additionally, data visualisation tools will be used to represent the engine performance and a bespoke data analytics platform will be created. The data analysis is expected to highlight areas where operational efficiencies can be achieved.
Data will be initially captured from two Royal Australian Navy vessels, which will then be used to help improve and manage the performance GE marine gas turbines used broadly across the fleet.
